No more keys

Wow! So much has happened over the last couple weeks I have barely had time to blog about it! I have a lot of catching up to do! (hopefully I don't forget any of them)

But today was a whole new experience. About 6 years ago I tuned in a key to a dorm room. That key meant nothing to me as I never really used it because of our suite situation and someone usually being there. So when I turned it in I didn't care. I actually have no memory of turning it in as I left, but I must have, because I got back my deposit and no longer have the key.

When I moved out of my parents house I didn't return their key. I still have it, and I still use it for things like dropping off food or the dog.

So today I can officially say that I turned in my first set of house keys. Our last day to leave our old place is today, soi gathered them up (except hubby needs to grab his) and took them down. I did a last walk through (where I grabbed a door mat and bleach that was left) and turned the keys in. Our apartment managers are great but the feeling was sort of surreal. If you are like me you get attached to you keys, carry then with you everywhere, when you travel it is weird not to have them, or even not to have a whole set if your car is getting worked on for the day. So getting rid of amenities, home, and mailbox keys all at once is a little bit crazy. But also pretty cool, I like the feeling of being done with that place, I liked it and we were happy there, but now I feel like we are completely moved....and it is amazing!

Class for fun?

So looking over my years of education I feel like I have never taken a class for fun. In high school a room ceramics...not because it was fun (though it was often enjoyable) but also to fulfill my art requirement. I attempted to take a wedding planning class as a fun elective but decided that I had a real wedding to plan not a fake one sink dropped it. In my last fall semester I signed up for games for all ages in hopes of learning more about games for education in the classroom, but had other things happening that weekend and dropped it. I also signed up for the ropes course to prove to myself that I could do it rather than for fun.

When my dad mentioned to me that e was taking a cake decorating course a few weeks ago I wanted to go, and ten we started talking about the need to mkae a ton of cake....and we stopped talking about it, honestly I forgot about it, until he called me last week asking f I was serious. Turns out the class needed another person to sign up or it would have to be canceled. So now for the first time ever I am taking a class for fun, and I am also taking a class last minute.

Glass cutting

So I have been collecting various glass bottles from friends and family for weeks. I finally had several sitting around and decided one thing to try would be cutting them with yarn. Yep you heard me....wrap yarn, tie, take off, dip yarn in nail polish remover, put back on bottle, light yarn on fire.....let burn....and then plunge into cold water.

It took several tries for it to actually work, and I cut my finger on the not super smooth edge....but it was fun! And Matt enjoyed it long after to play with fire. Any excuse right?

First day

Obviously I have had first days at work before....but this week I got a new adventure all over again....and I love it!

Changes, and a little but of a roller coaster getting use to things...but it is pretty fantastic.

I really wish I could tell the bizarre Internet world more....but...now is not the time as I have wayyy too many new things to catch up on!

Wall art

So I have never really made my own things for my wall, 'artsy' decorations so to say.

So for this little project I first made a lot of felt flowers. I made a couple huge ones an had trouble filled out all of the biggest one (it would take a ton of felt!!) and set a small one in the middle....this also helped to make sure that it wasn't crazy big and sticking out of the wall.

I couldn't figure out what to do with them for a few days...so I waited and debating where and how to place them on the wall. I knew I wanted an art piece but beyond that I was totally clueless...until I went hunting for canvas....so I painted one a dark grey and then covered it in modge podge to give it a finished look....then I hot glued it like crazy....here is the finished product.

State of the Union

Note: this post is to be as unpolitical as possible, and I have no desire for anyone to know my political thoughts, feelings, or beliefs.

So yesterday, for the first time EVER I watched the entire state of the union address. I had never before seen the entire thing...and have mixed feelings about all of it. I think most opinions I have heard about it were negative, often from people with one sided opinions.

There are positives and negatives....but I watched the entire thing.

Wine party!

Ok so another tidbit about me? I am NOT a wine person....i try, but it rarely happens that I find a wine I like. I did find one at a friends wedding last summer... Pink....it was pretty good. But that ONE wine plus one sparkling wine are all that has gained my interest.

Well today I went to a wine party...a few different wines...some good snacks....GREAT company and a good time was had by all. I didn't love any of the wine but a couple of them came close and I am SUPER proud of myself for trying all of them! And I gave them a fair chance...you know you are supposed to have 3 sips to actually try wine?
