Transit of Venus

It was only because of the eclipse that I had the welders glass.

So as soon as I remembered I go home and pulled out the glass and th husband and I hopped on our bikes with the glass. We rode a couple of blocks and took turns staring at the sun through the glass. We eventually figured out that we both noticed the same tiny dot across the sun and think we saw Venus.

For those of you that want to sof I should warn you it won't happen for another like 300 years....that is something you miss when you aren't doing new things on a regular basis! Haha!

Empty toast

It was this same lovely meal that Derik enjoyed a Shirley Temple. Now I must tell you many times we gather there is a toast. So towards the end of thr evening I proposed a toast, then as we raised our glasses we realized....they were all empty. I must tell you giving who we were toasting we proceeded and had all the more laughs.

Good times with old friends as more new things to come.

Derik's Shirley Temple

So as I am looking over my blog posts from the last few months I figure now is a good time I update and my saved title made me giggle so I felt the need to update this one.

Rnd and friends have graciously adopted each other and become friends.

So as we are ordering one of the guys orders coffee, not uncommon from other times we get together and eat. At some point throughout the meal another friend asks him why just coffee why not at least a Shirley Temple or something. This got a GREAT reaction with Derik saying that he would NEVER be able to drink such an extremely girls drink. Why this was my opportunity....so the next time our server came by we (mostly me) requested a sprite with cherry syrup be delivered to our dear friend...who admitted that it was pretty good...

So yes this event had more to do with a friend than with me....but when friends have a significant event in their lives....we all celebrate.

Lottery ticket

As I am sure many of you heard, a couple months ago the lottery was at one of those high prizes that we only see every few years.

A few people at work got together and went in a lottery pool. I had to join...: What if they all won, and I wasn't a part of it? I know it seems like a long shot....but really that would drive me nuts so I went for it. The problem? I never carry cash so I took my bosses offer and let her spot me. The main issue with this? Paying for the ticket after I knew we didn't win....bummer !

REI

So REI members get to be part of this cool sell everything returned sale a couple times a year. It is a crazy long process.

I went for the first time. :-)

Everyone who goes in gets a ticket and they draw lotto style (neither time I went did I get in early) to go pick out of their random piles. I went on a mission for hiking boots (when climbing half dome sounded like a good idea) and waited ages. Finally I found a good pair and paid less than 10 bucks brand new!

I went back the next night and I was last to get called and an epic fail.

Rice on the stove.

I already mentioned this in another post (the one about my rice cooker) but adventures are good to share (And they need to count!)
So I grew up cooking rice in the microwave. Always. Never on the stove oven etc. the microwave was easy and simple (and no it was not uncle ben's rice)

So when we moved and inherited the smaller microwave ever known to man I had to make a change (6 months later that is called Quinoa!) and mad an attempt to throw it on the stove. Now you see, I am not a bad cook, in fact I like to think I am a pretty good cool, but I do like taking risks. Rice in the stove? This should not be considers a risk. As I am finishing this i think that's pan might finally be free of rice. And whatever I wanted to eat the rice with? Sooo did not happen.

It was a disaster. However that wooden spoon to stop the pot boiling over? It worked...sorta.

Aqua bootcamp

This was in March, yes I am that behind (but at least still branching out?)

Anyways one of my gym branches offered this class, and the idea stuck with me. Not sure what I was expecting. Maybe something like a masters swim club, maybe something where we all shared a pool, lanes and circle swam. Maybe multiple versions of the Lawrence 500.

That is not what I got. I didn't expect someone yelling at me to swim, ad not getting in the water himself. I didn't expect to be asked to do quick laps (think across 4 lanes and back) without time to put googles on. Very possible, but just irritating. I didn't expect dirty looks for going around people as we switched directions in a whirlpool. An I didn't expect an instructor that said I looked angry. Did I burn a million calories? Doubtful but it was fairly enjoyable. I would have been more likely to continue if it wasn't across town.
